Reading Notes: PDE Ramayana A

There's a lot to cover in this reading, so I wanted to focus on the section that I could see myself choosing my story for and focusing on that.

Sita
Based on The Divine Archer by F. J. Gould
Love at first sight! This is Rama and Sita's first meeting and they are pulled together by the universe. They look at each other, exchanging no words and know that they're meant for each other. Prior to their meeting, Rama and Lakshmana stroll around the city without the hermit. The marketplace is lively, the city vivid. A day passes and the lads go to a garden, which Sita is also going to in order to cut flowers. She asks her companion about the two of them. Rama hears her bangles and knows that he will love her until the end of time. "The queen of night is not so fair as Sita."

Rama Wins Sita
Based on Indian Myth and Legend by Donald A. McKenzie
Not that the avatar of Vishnu winning the hand of princess Sita in marriage should surprise anyone, but he does exactly that. This section highlights him as a hero, using epic imagery to set up how effortlessly he was able to fire his bow, winning the competition. Rama seems humble, despite having all of these superhuman powers and abilities. He doesn't seem worried he'll lose though. Inwardly, I think Rama knows that their fates are intertwined, his and Sita's. This section sets up his heroics nicely. Which leads to the wedding. Yay!

Rama and Sita's Wedding
Based on Ramayana, The Epic of Rama, Prince of India by Romesh Dutt
Rama and Sita get married (also his brothers too but, you know, I'm more worried about the other two.) The wedding is beautiful, there's even a rain of flowers. This excited the entire town, the wedding was so cheerful and great.

I think combining the three would make for a good story, possibly a cute little love story of some magnitude. I like Rama and Sita as characters a bunch. I don't think they're too much of anything, not too complex, not too flat, they're nice! Their beginning love story is quite sweet and easily my favorite part from this reading.
